Mississippi is so easy to hate

I can’t even feel guilty. Mississippi ranks dead last in almost everything that’s good and first in almost everything that’s bad. Let’s add to that semi-literacy coupled with hypocrisy. The Biloxi School Board has decided to remove To Kill A Mockingbird

Kenny Holloway, vice president of the Biloxi School Board said, “There were complaints about it. There is some language in the book that makes people uncomfortable, and we can teach the same lesson with other books.

The superintendent, Arthur McMillan had this to add:

There are many resources and materials that are available to teach state academic standards to our students. These resources may change periodically. We always strive to do what is best for our students and staff to continue to perform at the highest level.

Now, just to be sure, these folks are offended by the use of the “N-word.” The same word that fills virtually every rap “song.” These are the same folks who liove in a state where the the flag still has the confederate battle flag on it. So these dumb crackers don’t want their kids to read the “N-word” but i’s OK if they listen to it. It’s OK if they’re reminded of racial animus and bigotry every time they look at the flag pole, but gosh we’d better protect then from seeing that word.

White people are just stupid. Mississippi is just the state of hate.

Mississippi Sucks

I had to smile at a recent article by  over at the Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, MS. Jimmie’s headline:

‘Mississippi sucks’ rankings don’t tell the whole story about our state

Is so very true. In addition to the poignant stories Jimmie tells about the kind hearts of the “common folk” of Mississippi. Unfortunately, Jimmie’s Mississippi isn’t the state that really matters. The state is first in everything bad and last (or nearly so) in everything good. The reason is crucial. An the emblem is perhaps no more graphic than Dickie Scruggs. Mississippi is home to some truly wonderful people. It’s also the home of some of the most pervasive, invidious, cronyism, nepotism, and openly self-serving legislators, regulators and general despots on the planet.

Mississippi is a great place to visit, then get the hell out asap.
